We are seeking an experienced L3 Patching Engineer to manage the end-to-end patching lifecycle for Linux, AIX, and Windows server environments. The role involves ensuring timely patch deployment, maintaining security compliance, minimizing downtime, and handling escalations. The candidate will work closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to drive efficient patching strategies and automation across enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Linux/AIX Patching:
Plan, schedule, and deploy patches for Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, OEL) and AIX servers.
Manage patching using tools like SecPod, Ansible, and Azure Update Management.
Ensure successful patch deployment across production, staging, and development environments.
Perform rollback and remediation for patch failures.
Optimize patch cycles to reduce downtime and improve compliance.
Participate in CAB meetings and coordinate patch schedules with stakeholders.
Windows Server Patching (Secondary):
Plan and deploy Microsoft security and cumulative updates.
Manage patching through WSUS, SecPod, and Azure Update Management.
Ensure patch compliance and minimal operational impact.
Testing, Documentation & Compliance:
Develop patch testing procedures and validate post-patching system performance.
Maintain SOPs, documentation, and knowledge base articles.
Ensure compliance with security policies and audit requirements.
Work with security teams for vulnerability remediation and urgent patching needs.
Operational & Leadership Responsibilities:
Resolve critical patching failures and handle L3 escalations.
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams.
Manage vendors and support remote operations.
Drive automation initiatives using scripting and Ansible.
Ensure adherence to ITIL processes and change management practices.
Qualifications and Skills:
Educational Qualification:
As per project requirement
Technical Skills (Must Have):
8+ years of experience in Linux/AIX/Windows server administration
Strong expertise in Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, OEL) and AIX environments
Hands-on experience in patch management and update lifecycle (3+ years)
Experience with patching tools such as SecPod, Ansible, and Azure Update Management
Strong knowledge of patching mechanisms and troubleshooting patch failures
Experience with enterprise-level patch automation and compliance
Knowledge of failover clusters and system availability
Familiarity with network protocols (NFS, Samba, FTP)
Strong understanding of ITIL processes and change management
Secondary Skills (Nice to Have):
Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana
Experience in creating and managing Ansible playbooks
Knowledge of security vulnerability management
Experience in multi-platform environments (Linux, AIX, Windows)
Exposure to cloud environments
Certifications:
Red Hat Certification / IBM AIX Certification – Preferred
